" Five Important Things to Do During
Ramadan."
1) Obviously the first and the most important Ibadah of Ramadan is fasting.
For Allah Ta`la says: The revelation of the noble Qur`an which is a divine guidance for mankind, started during Ramadan....Another Verse reads: O you who believe! the fasting is prescribed for you [ in Ramadan] so that you may become pious. [Suratul Baqarah: Verse, 185 & 183.] AndRasulullaah [Sallalaahu Alaihi Wasallam!] encourages us: "Whoever fasts during Ramadan with faith and seeking his reward from Allah, will have his past minor sins forgiven. [Q. Sahih Muslim, Hadith No. 1781.]
2) The second important Ibadah of this blessed month is total abstinence from sins.
So do not see and hear what displeases Allah specially on television or in our dealings with others. For, Rasulullaah [Sallalaahu Alaihi Wasallam!] warns fasting Muslims: "If a Muslim does not abstain from lying and improper conduct with others, Allah also has no need that he should abstain from his food and drink." One more Hadith says: "When one of you fasts on a day, he should neither indulge in obscene ******** nor should he raise his voice; and if anyone abuses him or tries to quarrel with him, he should not retaliate and just say: "I am on a fast today." [Riyaazus Saaliheen, Hadith No: 1240.]
3) The third important Ibadah is offering Taraweeh prayer in a masjid congregation.
Offering eight Rak`ah is also permissible. However offering 20 Rak`ahs is highly rewarding. For, Rasulullaah [Sallalaahu Alaihi Wasallam!] advises us: "He who offers optional prayers [i.e. Taraweeh etc.] throughout Ramadan, out of sincere faith and in the hope of earning reward, will have his past minor sins forgiven. [Riyaazus Saaliheen, Hadith No: 1187.]
4) The fourth important Ibadah of this great month is helping the poor and needy for Allah`s sake.
This can be done even by spending from one`s wealth in arranging for their Iftaar as well. For, our Prophet [Sallalaahu Alaihi Wasallam!] used to do the same. The following report points towards his generous spending for Allah`s sake during Ramazan.
Hazrat Ibn Abbas r.a. reports that Rasulullaah [Sallalaahu Alaihi Wasallam!] was the most generous of all people and he was more generous than usual during Ramadan. Jibril used to meet him every night during Ramadan to recite the noble Qur`an to him. The Prophet, when met by Jibril, would be faster and better in generosity than the passing breeze. [Sahih Al-Bukhari, Hadith No. 3220.]
Another Hadith reads: "He who provides a fasting person with something to break his fast, will earn the same reward as the one who is actually fasting with out diminishing in any way the reward of the latter. [Sunan At-Tirmithie, Hadith No. 807.]
5) The fifth important Ibadah of Ramadan is performing "Umrah".
For, Allah`s Messenger is reported to have encouraged us; "The performance of `Umrah during Ramadan is equal [in reward.] to the performance of Hajj with me, i.e. with Rasulullaah. [Sahih Muslim, Hadith No. 3039.]This can be done on any day of Ramadan. But a lot of Muslims prefer to do it in the last week of Ramazan. For it helps them spend the "Lailatul Qadr" [Shab-e-Qadr.] in the Haram Shareef and participate in the Dua of Haram Shareef`s imam on the completion of noble Qur`an in Taraveeh prayer.
May Allah guide us all worship Him in this great month in a way that may please Him, amen!
