Dear All,

There was an outstanding man who showed exemplary behavior in the course of his duties. Lance Corporal Zamri Md Soot is a serving military personnel from the 6th Royal Malay Regiment. Recently, his battalion was involved in a Royal Parade in front of the Sultan of Kedah who is the Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Malay Regiment. During the parade, Lance Corporal Zamri was accidentally pierced and cut on the shoulder by the bayonet of another soldier. Despite the pain and discomfort, Lance Corporal Zamri bravely carried on taking part in the parade. Although he was informed to leave, he refused saying that it was his duty to finish the parade like a good soldier. He stayed on for almost 2 hours before being taken to hospital where he received 10 stitches for the deep cut on his upper arm.

Pride in his uniform, pride in his work and most importantly, pride in himself!!

Lance Corporal Zamri Md Soot

Normally parades are not necessarily a favorite activity in the Armed Forces. Many soldiers would have jumped at the slightest excuse to leave the parade. This is because during parades, you have to take part in various maneuvers which have to be done in absolute precision. This requires a very high level of concentration and discipline. The heat from the sun does not make the situation any better, and a parade may last up to 2 hours. Lance Corporal Zamri however is a proud soldier who demonstrated a level of honor and courage which went beyond his rank. He had the best excuse to leave the parade and yet, honor and pride in his uniform were more important to him. I think the main thing we can learn from this simple soldier is that we have choices in life, the easy ones and the honorable ones. When we opt for the easy choices in life it could be at the expense of our honor. On the other hand we could choose the more difficult options, but ensure that our honor remains intact. In today's world where materialism and self interests seems to be the norm, it is heart rendering to see a man who puts 'old fashioned values' like honor before his own well being. For that, I salute you, Lance Corporal Zamri! You are an inspiration to us all!! You have brought honor not only to yourself but to the military and the country.

Tips of the day: Honor isn't about making the right choices. It's about dealing with the consequences
